This is a very full-featured Leatherman tool that still fits in a pant pocket. The screwdriver blades snap into place without requiring a release mechanism. The knife can be opened without unfolding the tool.I will miss the rule for measuring things on the spot.I do not like the scissors as well as those on my Micra. I find I am carrying the Juice more than I expected.

Leatherman 64010101K Micra Multi-tool Review

Leatherman 64010101K Micra Multi-tool
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought my first Micra several years ago.I thought it might replace my small Victorinox. At first, I found it to be a little bulky in comparison. But soon, the Victorinox stayed a home and the Micra was always in my pocket.

The scissors are very sharp and strong. The screwdrivers are incredibly functional, especially the single slot Phillips. The file works on everything from metal to fingernails.Leatherman knives are all extremely sharp. This one is no exception.

The tweesers work fine but lack the flexibility of the Victorinox. But you never loose them either! My only real complaint with the Micra is that the knife and tools don't lock in place.Especially with the knife, you have to be careful because it can move a bit even when the handles are closed.

I think highly enough of the Micra that it was the first item on my shopping list for everyone in my family and my closest friends this past Christmas. It is a well thought out, extremely useful multi-tool in a small package.

Leatherman 930711 Nylon Sheath with Belt Loop, Black Review

Leatherman 930711 Nylon Sheath with Belt Loop, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The sheath that I got was the second one in the picture, the one with the yellow stitching.I don't like it that much.

First of all, it's not formed at all. It's a sheet of nylon stiched to another sheet of nylon. The sheath that came with my Wave is formed, with four sides. The sides of the Wave sheath are elastic, and stretch just enough to hug the tool tightly without being too tight. This sheath, though, only has two.Accordingly, sliding your multi-tool into it is rather difficult. One might argue that such a tight fit is a plus, that your multi-tool won't fall out if the top isn't closed.Fair enough, but it's also much more difficult to get out and put back in.

Also, this sheath does not have the little hole at the bottom that my Wave sheath does. This hole is nice because it allows you to reholster your multi-tool while it is opened up.You can be working with the pliers, reholster the tool without closing it back up again, and then get the tool out again. It's a very nice feature, and one this sheath does not have.

This sheath also lacks the little pockets in the back for the extra bits.My Wave sheath has them.

Finally, this holster is much larger, about 1/2 an inch longer and almost 1/2 an inch wider than my Wave sheath. Not that big a difference I suppose, but a bit annonying.

This sheath does work and does hold my Wave and Skeletool. At the same time, it's not formed, is bulky, lacks the hole in the bottom, and lacks a pocket for extra bits.If I could order all over again, I'd spend 23 cents more and get this: Leatherman 934810 Premium Nylon Sheath for Wave. That's one that came with my Wave.

Gerber 01471 Suspension Butterfly Opening Multi-Plier, with Sheath Review

Gerber 01471 Suspension Butterfly Opening Multi-Plier, with Sheath
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am not going to rehash what others have already said: it is a great tool, very solidly built, and strong.Metal is great.

However, watch out for the two different versions, and why you should purchase this in store instead!

I was at my local Target where they sell this tool.I picked one up to purchase and inspected the tool in the packaging. The metal was strangely low quality-looking with lots of pits and crevices.Overall, the quality seemed very poor: metal of poor quality, low quality bolts, and a poor surface coating where you could see pits in the paint.I looked on the back:Made in China.

I was ready to purchase it anyway when I walked back to the display and too a closer look at the other ones on the rack (same model).I noticed that some other ones had much better polished metal, smooth glossy paint, and round & smooth torx-headed bolts.I thought, wait, how can these be the same item and some be made so much better.I looked on the back:Made in Taiwan.

It appears that Gerber switched production some time in 2008 from Taiwan to China. The quality has greatly suffered as a result.
You should be aware that most of these reviews on Amazon before 2008 are for the Made in Taiwan model. This is the model you should get!Unfortunately, because Amazon stock moves so fast, you're likely to get an vastly inferior Made in China model. This is why I strongly suggested purchasing this in the store instead so you can look for a Made in Taiwan model or at least inspect the Made in China model first before purchasing.

This Gerber multitool also comes with a nylon ballistic-cloth sheath so that you can keep it protected from the elements when it's not in use.
If you're looking for even more versatility, Gerber offers an add-on tool kit that contains an adapter, three different sizes of flathead bits, cross point bits, and hex head bits for increased functionality. Also available are several a convenient sharpening systems that can help you keep the blades on your multitool in top condition without the hassle of using a whetstone or a round file, including the DF6 Compact Sharpener and the DF8 Sharpener, which uses unique diamond fingers to acheive a perfect 30 degree angle every time you sharpen a blade (tool kit and sharpeners not included).
Gerber's History of Ingenuity
Savvy. Moxie. Craftsmanship. Attention to detail. These are just a few of the company traits that contributed to Gerber's emergence as a world leader in outdoor gear. Joseph Gerber started Portland, Oregon's Gerber Advertising back in 1910, and one Christmas, he hired a local knife-maker to craft 25 sets of kitchen cutlery as client gifts. The knives were so popular, Mr. Gerber ultimately left his agency to launch Gerber Legendary Blades in 1939.
For more than half a century, Gerber Legendary Blades has been helping people fend for themselves. Gerber designs popular, dependable tools and knives along with other outdoor gear that helps users accomplish whatever tasks they may be faced with, promoting the lost art of self-reliance.

Leatherman 934870 40 Bit Assortment with Nylon Sheath Review

Leatherman 934870 40 Bit Assortment with Nylon Sheath
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am a paratrooper in the United States Army and I use a multi-tool every day.I have been issued tools from Leatherman, Gerber and SOG and all have their good points as well as bad.

The SOG rusted quite easily after being exposed to perspiration in Afghanistan. It was also not easy to expose the blades in the handle.

Gerbers worked well, but the screwdrivers were not beveled well. Also the bottle opener was so short that it was difficult to open a cold Sam Adams.

This assortment of bits works extremely well.I have never been a fan of leatherman multi-tools because of some poor design flaws in the early leatherman models.Specifically the original Leatherman tool was pretty hard on your hand when using the pliers. The "blades" were on the outside when the pliers were in the open position. If you ever had one, you know what I mean.

Leatherman corrected that with the Wave series by contouring the handles, but the bevel on the screwdriver (flat head) left much to be desired.

I used several Gerber models and was pretty satisfied with them (except for the LEDEND model.....no can opener) Gerbers also will pinch you if you are not careful when using the pliers.

The Victorinox Swisstool is built well, and with MINIMAL care will never rust. The blades are sharp and their placement is well thought out.It has rounded edges in all the right places and as such is comfortable in your hand.It will never pinch you when using the pliers.

I got a Leatherman XT-i as a gift and found it to be well made and comfortable to use. With the addition of this bit kit it should be even more functional. The bits seem to be well made and durable.I still find myself carrying my swisstool more often than the Leatherman, but that is out of 6 years of habit. I'm not ready to retire the Swisstool, but I will give the leatherman a chance.

I also put the bits I thought I would use the most on one card and carry that in the belt sheath that the XT-i came in.That seems to work well.

Leatherman 830025 Fuse Pocket Multitool with Leather Sheath Review

Leatherman 830025 Fuse Pocket Multitool with Leather Sheath
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As a PC tech, this tool has been indispensable in my job. I've owned several, my favorite being the Wave, but I like this one because it's lightweight and has just the tools I need (after all, who really needs a saw in computer work?) The nice thing about this one is all the blades lock, and the lock release is easy to use. Another nice feature is the "get only the blade you need" feature. On my old Wave, I would pull out the scissors and the screwdrivers would all come out with it. With the Fuse, if you want just the scissors, you'll get just the scissors.

While the tool itself is built very well and feels solid, my one gripe would be the leather sheath that came with it. It just feels cheap. Maybe I was spoiled with the deluxe sheath that my Wave has, but I would think that Leatherman would include high-quality sheaths to complement their high-quality tools.

While I would never consider replacing my Wave for my outdoor adventures or simple home improvement projects, the Fuse is a worthy addition to my collection and is a great asset in my job. I would definitely recommend it.

The Fuse incorporates Leatherman's new jaw design with stronger pliers and longer wire cutters, plus a wood/metal file, scissors and bottle/can opener to round out the portable collection. And now, the Fuse features an all-blades locking system that is 50-percent stronger than Leatherman's original locks. With a slim chassis and an assortment of the most-needed tools, Fuse puts portability at the forefront of your need to be prepared
Key User Features:

The Fuse's interior features are supremely easy to access -- just swing open the handles and rotate the blades out using the convenient nail nicks. All of the tools available in the Fuse are made from 100-percent stainless steel, engineered to the optimum grade hardness for each individual tool.
The Fuse features a system of all-locking blades. To release the interior blades, just press the grooved portion of the push-button lock and carefully rotate the blade back inside the tool. These blades are straight, and they may be sharpened by using standard sharpening methods, for easy maintenance.

Leatherman 830685 Charge TTi with Nylon Sheath Review

Leatherman 830685 Charge TTi with Nylon Sheath
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was a big fan of the L-Man Wave and carried one for several years. I loved the convenience of having the blades, saw & file open from the outside. These components also featured high quality cross-locks similar to the ones on a lot of premium pocket knives. These basic design features are maintained in the Charge TTi.

The quality of these particular items - blades, files and saw - seem to me to be the things that set one multi-tool apart from the other. The quality and design of one screwdriver bit or can opener is pretty much the same as that of another. And the good multi-tools all have "decent" pliers. But it is not so with cutting blades, saws and files. Here there can be a big difference.

The L-Man Charge is NOT the largest multi-tool I own but its two cutting blades (my others have just one) saw and file ARE the largest featured on any of them (no longer true, as I now have a Swisstool X). I believe this is possible because of the fact they are accessed from the outside. Their size need not be limited to make room for the pliers to fold into the handles as with tools whose blades are all accessed from inside.

The saw, file and the blades are not only larger but also of very good quality. The saw cuts as effectively as any I have used with very little clogging or sticking. One side of the file is diamond coated, making it more versatile. There is a serrated sheepsfoot blade with an integral cutting hook (very useful) and best of all the main, straight-edged blade is of premium S30V steel. If you know knives you know this is top quality stuff (and not cheap). Most other companies - even the good ones - don't even publish what they are building their tools from. I get the feeling there is a lot of 440a (or lesser steel) out there.

The "inside" tools on the Charge TTi now have a very smooth and solid locking mechanism which was lacking on the original Wave. This is a definite improvement. And compared to the Wave the Charge TTi has a better look and feel to it.

There are extra niceties. At nearly 9 oz, the Charge TTi is (to my tastes) "slightly too big for comfy pocket carry". And using a sheath doesn't work well for me since I wear sweats a lot. The "pocket" clip is therefore a definite bonus, allowing me to tuck the Charge TTi in my waistband where I hardly notice it. The built-in lanyard attachment is nice, too, and an improvement on the Wave's. (I don't like accidentally dropping and losing my expensive tools - so a good lanyard attachment is a must for me.)

In addition to the original L-man Wave tool, I have used a Gerber Compact Sport 400 (smaller, lighter) and an SOG Powerlock S63 EOD (larger, heavier). These are very respectable tools in their own right and the SOG in particular seems a little better than the L-Man Charge TTi in a couple of respects (see the upcoming review). But on balance I feel that the Charge TTi is the best tool I own and the only one I would rate as high as a 5. And if I could only keep one, this would be it.

Post Script: See my other reviews for a head to head comparison between the TTi and Victorinox's excellent Swisstool X.

Leatherman 831189 Squirt PS4 Red Keychain Tool with Plier Review

Leatherman 831189 Squirt PS4 Red Keychain Tool with Plier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I own numerous Leatherman multitools including the Mini, Pulse, PST, Juice S2, Juice SC2, Wave, Skeletool, Skeletool CX, Micra, Squirt P4, and Squirt S4. I also own numerous Victorinox Swiss Army Knives and multitools. I truly respect and admire the stellar designs utilized by both companies. Having used and owned all these different tools, I feel that the Leatherman Squirt ES4 and PS4 are now unparalleled as the best keychain size multi tools fit for everyday carry (EDC).

PROS
1. Small size, shorter than the Micra, although thicker
2. Lightweight, lighter than the Micra
3. Pliers, which Victorinox does not offer in any of their 58 mm size Swiss Army Knives (SAK)
4. In the ES4 model there are wire strippers (20, 18, 16, 14, 12 gauges)
5. Scissors
6. Flat screwdriver, medium size
7. Flat Philips driver
8. File, with fine and coarse sides
9. Knife, with clip point blade
10. Keyring
11. Bottle opener
12. All tools are accessible with the pliers closed
13. Aesthetically pleasing design with compact body. Please note that the "red" model is actually a darker, maroon color and quite different from what I expected from Amazon's product photo

CONS
1. Colored handles, which I do not expect to hold up well on a keychain. The Micra has the best design in this instance with its steel handles
2. No toothpick, which is not important to me, but I always hear how people seem to want this in a SAK
3. No tweezers, which I do miss a little as they can be useful for removing splinters
4. No small flat screwdriver, which was on the Micra
5. Scissors are much smaller than the Squirt S4 but on par with the Victorinox 58 mm SAKs

CONCLUSION
The Leatherman Squirt PS4 and ES4 offer an amazing set of tools which include pliers and scissors in the same model, unlike the older S4 (scissors) or P4 (pliers) models or the Micra in which the presence of one excluded the other. If Leatherman ever makes the ES4 or PS4 with plain steel or aluminum handles, I feel that they would be close to perfect.

Leatherman 934850 Quick-Release Pocket Clip and Lanyard Ring Review

Leatherman 934850 Quick-Release Pocket Clip and Lanyard Ring
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been carrying the latest Wave for a few months now, and I've never found a tool that fits my lifestyle so perfectly. The only bad thing I had to say about the tool, was the sheath it came with.I usually just use a Nite-Ize multi-holster for all my gadgets so I didn't feel the need to purchase an alternative right away. It's a pocketknife. I have pockets. Took me ten minutes to figure it out, but it was worth the head scratching. Regardless of how much I hated the holster, this clip/larnyard set found its way into my hands on Christmas morning.Just a day before, I had discovered there was already a larnyard ring ON the Wave, but it's hidden better than Jimmy Hoffa, tucked behind one of the brushings. However, as good as the existing ring is, it isn' removable for quick-release use. Within a day, the removable ring in this set proved to be superior. Simply press the lock button that holds the ring in place, and pull, like throwing a grenade. Comes off easy, only when you do it yourself, I've never had it fall off on its own. But the clip is the alternative I find myself using ondaily basis. It fits in the same slot the ring does, can't complain about only being able to use one because of the existing ring on the Wave. I've carried my clipped Wave in all manners of pockets, from a dressy buttoned shirt breast pocket to the change pouch in a pair of jeans older than I am, and I'm never carrying a bare Wave again. It's saved me the hassle of digging through my pockets for the tool, without sacrificing any features of qualities of the tool itself. It's also very discreet, the well-known trick is to keep the tool inside the pocket with just the clip and top of the folded tool showing, don't risk clipping it onto the outside and bumping some one in the subway with it. This also, is not a belt clip. It's designed to simply hold the tool in place in a pocket, it will not hold the weight of the tool if you hang it off a belt or a strap on a backpack. That's what holsters are for. The smaller Leathermen can be carried on a belt with a clip, because they are very lightweight. But the Wae, Charge, and deluxe charge are not smaller Leathermans, they are full size tools and should be treated that way. If you don't confused it for something it's not, it fulfills its purpose beautifully.
Also, contrary to the last review, the clip does not cause the knife blades to loosen, that was an effect of the oil the reviewer used on his Leatherman. An incorrectly oiled Leatherman, clip or no clip, may unfold at the worst possible time. No hard feelings for the last reviewer, simply clearing up some confusion.

Leatherman 831078 Freestyle Multi-tool Review

Leatherman 831078 Freestyle Multi-tool
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been carrying a Leatherman Tool for well over two decades, and have used it at least once every day I've carried it. I've carried a Leatherman Wave for the last ten years, and it's served me rather well that entire time.
When they came out with the Skeletool, it looked too awkward for me with the large carabiner clip, so I decided against trying to upgrade to it. This appeared to be approximately the same tool minus the clip, so I pulled the trigger on buying it.
The knife blade is well placed and easy to open, which has always been a major failing of the Wave series and I'm rather happy with it.
The pliers on the other hand are kind of awkward and thin looking. Unlike the previous Leatherman tools, I don't feel as comfortable using them as casually on tough jobs. While their design does lend more toward a more comfortable carry the handles are too short and the curve makes for a clumsy handhold on them.
I would have preferred that they retained the bit driver that was on both the Wave and the Skeletool.
Overall, I do occasionally carry this, but view it more as a pocket knife than anything else, and that's just not why you carry a Leatherman. It tends to stay on my nightstand more often than not and I've gone back to my Wave almost exclusively.
I realize they can't all be winners, and I'll still look forward to the next tool they release.

About Leatherman: Time-Tested Tools
On a low-budget trip through Europe in 1975, recent college graduate Tim Leatherman faced a number of impromptu "fix-it" situations that his traditional pocket knife couldn't help with. Over the next eight years, Tim used his engineering background to produce countless designs and hundreds of prototypes for the tool he wished he'd had on that trip.
In 1983, the original Leatherman Pocket Survival Tool hit the market. By 1993, Leatherman was selling more than one-million tools a year. Thanks to their durability and versatility, Leatherman products--which now include multi-pliers, knives, pruners, and LED lights--are a mainstay of tradesmen and women, sailors, fishermen, hunters, backpackers, scouts, and do-it-yourselfers the world over.

Leatherman 931009 Bit Driver Extension Review

Leatherman 931009 Bit Driver Extension
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
At first glance, the first-party Leatherman bit driver extender seems more of a convenience than a necessity. However, modern Leatherman multi-tools have switched from the old multi-tool screwdriver style--several, dedicated screwdrivers--to a single large bit driver compatible with any of Leatherman's forty-plus proprietary double-ended bits. While the bit driver affords vast expandability for a Leatherman multi-tool, it does sacrifice the reach that a dedicated screwdriver would otherwise lend. With this bit driver extender, not only do you extend the reach of your driver, thus enabling you to reach recessed screws otherwise impossible to engage, but it also grants you the ability to use any standard 1/4"-drive hex bit. The bit driver extender can also be used with any Leatherman tool or knife that features a large bit driver (Charge models, Surge, Wave, e306x/e307x, k502x/k503x, h502/h503). Not only that, but the removable bit drivers available for various other Leatherman tools (Juice series, Core, Blast, Fuse, Kick (Leatherman 830045 Removable Bit Driver for Blast/Fuse/Kick), and even all three pruners models) accept the bit driver extender. Actually, any 1/4"-drive hex bit extension would accept this bit driver extender. The bit driver extender conveniently fits in one of the elastic side pockets featured on some Leatherman sheaths.

Leatherman 830018 Kick Pocket Multi-Tool with Leather Sheath Review

Leatherman 830018 Kick Pocket Multi-Tool with Leather Sheath
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm a fan of leatherman, and I was able to pick up a couple of these on a Christmas closeout for about a third of normal cost.Let me break it down:

The Good:
1) Solid Tools.Includes sturdy needlenose/plier combo with soft and hard wire cutter combo.Nice 3 inch blade.2 sizes of standard screw driver bits and a phillips, all are tough. Wire-stripper, bottle opener, can opener combo, and a lanyard ring.Plust it has both metric and Imperial measurements on the handle.
2) Cheap
3) Decent quality leather sheath (though I prefer nylon)

The Bad:
1) Although otherwise of quality construction, the cheap plastic inserts in the handle are sharp (they have an edge) and even in the finger molds, they tend to dig.The plastic offers no grip quality improvement either.
2) The knife fingernail notch sits below the handle edge, making it difficult to open.In fact, all of the tools are tough to get open to some degree except for the Phillips driver.
3) Tool selection is minimalist.Would have been better served to opt for the screw driver bit system they use on the higher end models and substitute a scissors and maybe an awl or small saw instead, of course, it's an inexpensive tool, but I'm not sure how this would be any more expensive to build in this way.
4) Pretty heavy for what you get - doesn't weight much less than my New Wave.

The Ugly:
They look like a cheap Chinese knockoff. To some degree the handle digging into your palm reinforces this view. They are of rather plain design.

If you can pick it up for a decent price, it's a solid tool. It's design belies a nicely constructed and well balanced feel and the implements are of decent quality (though obviously not the steel used in their higher end models). If you use your pliers a lot, I strongly suggest another model with rounded steel edges like the New Wave or Charges.Based on Quality, Performance and relatively low cost, I'm giving it a 3.5.Because it lacks some utility, and the handles are pretty much a mess, I'm rounding it down to 3 stars on Amazon (no halves).I'm putting these in my vehicles as emergency gear - they won't be Every Day Carry items for me.

The cheap and sharp platic inserts are the deal breaker. If theyfixed those, I would have rounded up to a 4 for sure based on your bang for the buck.

The Kick folds down to a tight, easy-to-transport 4 inches. The Leatherman Kick: You Can't Beat it For the Basics

Designed for folks who prefer a little less weight on the hip, the Leatherman Kick multitool features longer, sharper, stronger implements in a lightweight, compact tool. The full-size pliers include a newly designed jaw to handle twice the squeeze-load as the previous version with no extra weight added. A straight-knife, three extended screwdrivers and a bottle and can opener fold neatly and tightly inside the tool. Leatherman's rugged Zytel handle grips ensure a firm and comfortable hold. This multitool also contains a fixed lanyard ring and a leather sheath.
Key User Features

Efficiency is the name of Kick's game. Thoughtful engineering means that a tapped screw allows you to choose a pocket clip (sold separately) instead of a belt sheath. Kick has the same super-strong pliers as larger Leatherman tools, but its narrow shape and light weight keep you moving.
The Kick's interior features are supremely easy to access -- just swing open the handles and rotate the blades out using the convenient nail nicks. The scissors open the same way, with a swift rotation and a nail nick; and when the scissors are fully extended, they lock into place. All of the tools available in the Kick are made from 100-percent stainless steel, engineered to the optimum grade hardness for each individual tool. The Kick features a system of straight blades, which can be sharpened by using standard sharpening methods, for easy maintenance.

The Kick's thoughtful engineering means sharp, strong, long blades and twice the gripping power of the previous model.
Expand your Kick's capabilities with genuine Leatherman accessories like this removable bit driver or pocket clip (both sold separately)
Multitool Capabilities:

    Needlenose pliers
    Regular pliers

Leatherman 64010103K Micra Multitool Review

Leatherman 64010103K Micra Multitool
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I recently ordered the Leatherman Wave for my toolkit and received this little beauty for free as part of a promotion.I had never seen this item and certainly would not have purchased on its own.For that matter, upon receiving it I simply tossed it in my desk thinking it was along the lines of those little marketing pocket knives that companies give out at conferences.Boy, was I wrong.

I happened to grab tool one day when I couldn't find a wire cutter I thought had in my desk.I needed to snip a couple of wires and didn't want to go to get my toolbox so I thought I'd give this a shot - I'm glad I did.Not only did the scissors easily cut the wires, I ended up using it to strip the wires and re-attach everything with the screwdriver. After that, the tool immediately replaced the mini pocket knife on my keychain.

This unit is so small and unobtrusive that I don't even notice it on my keychain yet it does so much more than the knife I carried. The scissors are great - no, they aren't going to replace your Fiskars for paper cutting but they are sharp and sturdy and have done a great job on every thing I've cut with them.

Both the scissors and the knife blade hold their edge and sharpen very well and that from a guy who is not very skilled at knife sharpening.I have used both edges repeatedly for months and have only had to do minor re-sharpening on each twice.

I was a little upset that the tool did not include a Phillips head but the flat Phillips it does include has worked perfectly on every Phillips screw I've tried it on.Both the Phillips and the slotted blades are sturdy and the handle arrangement makes them very easy to use - even in tight situations.

I use this little beauty every day and am very happy I stumbled across it.It is very surprising how useful it is given its size.I've used this one hundreds of times while the Wave that I ordered has only been used once or twice.Despite that, I'm glad I bought the Wave - otherwise I would have never found this tool.

In response to another comment, no you can not take this on a plane (on your person or in your carry on) but you can stow it in your checked baggage.I hope I never forget to check this because I would hate to give it up to security.Just in case, I ordered a 2nd one as a backup.

Great little tool!

Product Description:
Leatherman's Micra -- a Tiny Classic

The Leatherman Micra multitool is crafted from 100-percent stainless steel, engineered to the optimum hardness for each individual tool. At a mere 2-1/2 inches when folded closed, this wee masterpiece offers super-sharp spring-action scissors, along with nine additional personal-care features. It's just the right size for key rings or belt loops, so it's always right at hand for speedy access and quick fixes.
Don't let the size fool you. The Micra is tough, sturdy, and truly unique. Good things come in small packages, and this amazing little tool is no exception. It comes in a variety of colors to suit your personal style, or a standard brushed stainless steel finish (this model). This useful item makes a superb stocking stuffer, birthday surprise, or thoughtful present for any occasion.
The Micra comes in an assortment of colors to suit your personal style.
Tools Featured in this Model:

    Scissors
    Clip-point knife
    Tweezers
    Nail file / cleaner
    Flat Phillips screwdriver
    Extra small screwdriver
    Medium screwdriver
    Bottle Opener
    Ruler (inch / metric)
    Lanyard attachment

User Features

When using the scissors, you'll first grip the handles at the thicker ends and swing them open. At first you will notice a bit of resistance, due to the spring mechanism that controls the scissors. To close them, simply reverse the procedure.
To navigate the blades, just open the handles. Then it's easy to use the nail nick to rotate out a single blade. Once the blade is open, all you have to do is close both handles to take advantage of the Posi-Stop feature. Should a blade accidentally start to close, that blade will be stopped by the opposite handle -- for an added measure of strength and safety. For further stability, the Micra has two small tabs inside the handles that interlock when the handles are closed.
The Micra comes with a stainless steel split ring that will allow the tool to be attached to any key chain or lanyard. Or, if you prefer, the split ring can be completely removed and the fixed attachment point can be easily folded inside the tool.

Leatherman 830033 Blast Multitool with Nylon Sheath Review

Leatherman 830033 Blast Multitool with Nylon Sheath
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a full sized, fully feature-loaded multitool which can usually be found at a great price. It is my main go-to multitool, and I have several from the various lines that Leatherman makes. The Blast is the top model in the Leatherman intermediate line, where its junior siblings are Leatherman Kick and Fuse.

What's so great about it? It is lighter than comparable tools with similar features, which makes it easy to carry. It packs a ton of useful and essential tools: knife, metal file and saw, wood saw, several screwdrivers including Philips and eyeglass mini, can / bottle opener, scissors - and they all securely lock in place when open. Each tool opens smoothly by itself, unlike on some lower end multitools. The knife is among the longest seen in any multitool. Pliers are large, sturdy, and the best Leatherman offers, same as on much more expensive models. The screwdrivers are long, making it easy to reach any screw. (Leatherman separately sells an extension bit holder if you need to work with more exotic screws.) The ruler markings on the handle have been surprisingly useful to me also. The price is great too, esp. if you shop around online.

What could be better? To access any of the tools, you need to open the handles. Unlike the Leatherman Juice series, nothing is accessible "from the outside," which tends to be the fashion these days. Nothing opens just with one hand, unlike on the famous Leatherman Wave. If you are a knife snob, the steel of the knife could have been higher end. Any of these things could be a deal breaker for some people. For me, this is a tool I keep around for when something actually needs fixing; I don't carry it with me in my pocket since it is a little too bulky and heavy for that. For smaller daily tasks like opening packages or cutting something, I carry and use a smaller keychain tool (Leatherman Squirt) or a Swiss Army Knife, where cutting tools are more easily accessible.

Are there bigger or better multitools? Sure. Many rave about the Leatherman Wave or Charge, but they are heavier, and good luck finding them at less than 1.5x or 2x the street price of this Blast. Victorinox also makes a pricier SwissTool line. For some of course this price difference will be worth it. I feel anything smaller or cheaper than the Blast is likely to be a compromise (some useful tools missing, pliers less sturdy, lesser materials and quality, or something else) - although in many cases, such compromises are OK depending on your purpose.

I highly recommend this multitool.

Leatherman 830160 Surge Pocket Multitool with Leather Sheath Review

Leatherman 830160 Surge Pocket Multitool with Leather Sheath
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm a rancher. I carry a multitool every waking hour.I've exercised the warranty on a Wave three times in three years.I've broken the detente that prevents the knife blades from bending beyond straight.I've broken the tips of the pliers pulling cotter pins, and I've chewed up the hard wire cutter. The Surge seems to do all these things and more with greater ease than the Wave, and it seems to be taking the day-to-day punishment. If not the fourth Wave is waiting as a backup.

As for the size aspect:I wear gloves in large size. The Surge is not too big for my hands and I can't imagine it'd be too big for medium size hands.IMO, frequent and continued use of the pliers with small hands could be tiring.

I depend on these things everyday.A Leatherman has never let me down even when they've broken. If you use one this much then I'd highly recommend the nylon sheath. The leather case and snap are not as convenient.

BTW, it may not be the perfect tool for the job, but when its the one that 's handy it gets the job done.

I've had the Surge for 6 months now.For whatever reason I took the Wave the other day.Its too small!I won't go back to the Wave. The Surge is the right size. For what I do, the Surge the best tool out there.

The Surge Extra-Large Multitool from Leatherman

The Leatherman Surge multitool is built with tough new pliers, longer blades and easy-to-use locks. This multitool features a helpful blade exchanger with the saw and diamond/wood file blades -- and with this blade exchanger, two knives and the extra-strong scissors are easily accessed from the outside of the tool. Also, there are four outside-opening blades to give you quick access to the tools you use most. The Surge boasts both large and small bit drivers, and it comes in a leather sheath. With stronger jaws for more squeezing force with less effort, plus Leatherman's strongest scissors yet, Surge is sure to make a splash at the work site.

Key Tech Specs:

    100-percent stainless steel construction
Includes Phillips #1-2, screwdriver 3/16-inch bits
Includes Phillips and flat tip eyeglasses bits
    4-1/2 inches long (closed)

Key User Features

The Surge features four blades that can be opened while the tool is closed. Open the straight and serrated knife blades with one hand by placing your thumb at the base of the blade and rotating the knife until it's fully extended, which securely engages the locking mechanism. The locking mechanism is marked with a padlock symbol on the tool, and to disengage it, just squeeze it towards the handle until the blade slides past the lock. It's a simple feature, but it's one that guarantees your safety.
To open and close the interior blades, just grip the handles and swing them open. Each interior blade can be lifted out by using the nail nicks or the thumb lifts. And if you wish to change blades, simply remove the saw or blade file from the blade exchanger by opening the exchanger to a 90-degree angle from the closed handles. The blade releases from a t-shank connector at the clasp. Changing tool bits is equally easy. Just open the bit driver, grasp the tool bit, and pull it straight out -- then snap the desired bit into place.

Leatherman 831195 Squirt PS4 Black Keychain Tool with Plier Review

Leatherman 831195 Squirt PS4 Black Keychain Tool with Plier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've carried a Leatherman pocket tool for years.First it was the Micra. Then the Squirt S4.Now the Squirt PS4 looks like it may occupy my pocket for a while. One of the biggest drawbacks with the older Squirt models is that you had to choose between either pliers or scissors. Now with the PS4 you can have both.New are the pliers with wire cutters.Gone are the tweezers, small screwdriver, ruler and nail cleaner. The file has changed from a nail file to a wood/metal file (it's a lot more coarse). That may seem like a step backwards to some. But I think Leatherman removed the least useful tools and replaced them with a tool that significantly more useful.I will miss the small screwdriver though. It was just the right size for my glasses and none of the remaining screwdrivers are small enough.

The individual tools are identical in size to the corresponding tools on the Squirt S4, except for the scissors and file. The scissors are obviously smaller and the file is significantly bigger.

The design is basically the same.It is the slightest bit heavier and wider on one side compared to older Squirts, but it's not even noticeable unless you're comparing them side-by-side, and even then just barely. The nail nicks for both screwdrivers and the scissors are a bit hard to reach because the body is not recessed on that side.It has a matted aluminum finish so it is not as shiny, but it still looks very nice. And it comes in black which I like. The screws holding the body together are now Torx T-6 screws so the tension is adjustable which is a nice little bonus. It has the typical quality Leatherman build and definitely feels like another winner.

The Amazon product description from the manufacturer mentions tweezers which is a mistake because this model doesn't have them.

If you don't need pliers and scissors there probably isn't enough reason to upgrade if you already own a Squirt. But if you've been wishing for one Leatherman keychain tool with both, then do a victory dance and pick up one of these.Your wait is over.

11/2/2010 Update
Just one additional note about the finish. Those of you who own a P4 or S4 colored Squirt know that the color tends to wear off pretty quickly. After EDCing a black PS4 in my pocket for several months, I've noticed only a couple very small nicks where the color has worn off.Overall the color seemed to be holding up a whole lot better than it did on the older Squirts.

This is essentially the perfect multi-tool. The functions included here will cover all of your bases without crowding your available space, which seems to be all-too common among multi-tools. The craftsmanship is outstanding; it looks and feels as durable as it gets. And now finally a matte black finish turns a clumsy looking gadget into a beautiful machine.

However, herein lies its particularly annoying flaw. Right out of the box, the finishing coat on this tool left black smudges and marks all over my hands, especially where lubricant was applied. Now, overlooking the sissy/feminine jokes sure to come, that's just not okay with me, especially if those smudges transfer to whatever I'm working on. Luckily, within half an hour or so of thoroughly cleaning it with moist cotton swabs, the black finally stopped getting on my hands. To keep the joints turning fluidly, I reapplied some WD-40 from their pen dispenser.

After all of that, I couldn't ask for a better product, but I wouldn't want others to run into this same issue without due warning.
