I don't know who makes the Monarch series for Leatherman, but they're doing a good job. The Monarchs are made in China and have a great output. The Monarch 300 uses one AAA battery (includes one Energizer alkaline) and can use alkaline, NiMH, or lithium. Light intensity and brightness is equal to my Streamlight MicroStream, but the Monarch 300 has a nice spill beam (the MicroStream has none). The battery lasts quite a while, and I've used mine for the last week or so every day for about 40 minutes each day with no loss in output. So the Monarchs are digitally regulated. It includes a polished stainless steel pocket clip and a polished stainless steel ring, both of which are removable, and makes carrying the light easy. The tailcap and bezel both unscrew if you want to play around with the insides. The only thing I would change is to have an adjustable focus; otherwise, the Monarch 300 is a great light for the cost.
