Multitools have come a long way. Multitool owners have not advanced nearly as much. Two schools of thought of what a multitool should be are. The tough, indispensable, survival tool that is the only thing you will need, when airdropped into the wild. Where spending 80$-100$ is nothing compared to having that extra edge in the fight to survive. Another school of thought is the how I can get more things done around the house, with a few less trips to the tool box. Where 80$ - 100$ is better spent on a Crescent 170 piece Mechanics Tool Set. For those people, the 44 Mag should fit the bill nicely. The implements do not lock in place, and some of the inner ones can not be reached unless you slide the outer ones first. But these are minor issues that even the first Leatherman had. If you are looking for something more modern, Mammut Tool Corp makes a Leatherman Wave clone that looks interesting. The 44 Mag is proof that you don't have to pay a lot for convenience. With that being said, I am still keeping my Swiss Tool and Camelbak for those Survival trips.
