(More customer reviews)The blades were both dull as butter knives but sharpened up nice in a few minutes.The tweezers are too short and stay pressed together when folded in so I have to separate them with my fingers and bend them outwards to make them work, and then they don't work that good.The "cross driver" is tiny and of limited use.The pliers on the p model are pretty good, and the scissors on the s model are very good. Flat screwdriver is nice, although I would like a can opener rather than a bottle opener.OK tool for the price. It's funny, the pliers and scissors are of different finishes and have different lettering pressed into them, like they were made at two different Chinese forced labor camps.

(More customer reviews)With knifes, you have to use and abuse them a little before you can write a fair review based on it's performance. For most knifes of this price you wouldn't expect super high quality as you would with prominent knife makers like Benchmade or CRKT, etc. In this instance, however, this is actually a fairly well made knife. And, I will be quick to point out it is made out of the same high quality steel that most high end knifes are made from (440C). I have had no problems so far with mine in the two months that I have had it and I use it A LOT. Mostly as a utility knife but it would make an excellent all around everyday and campers knife. It has kept a sharp edge so far and the tip has not bent or been damaged even though I have used the tip to pry open things. The design is nice and comfortable to hold. The lock has worked well and consistent. I had to actually loosed the screws on mine with a torx wrench just a little so that the "quick open" finger notch worked more smoothly. With a light flick it whips open quickly now. It is super thin & the pocket clip works nicely. It's not too heavy even though it is a decent sized knife. I would rate this overall as a very useful utility and/or campers/hikers knife and would recommend it!

(More customer reviews)Well, as an avid Bear Grylls fan, I really truly was hoping for the best on this, and I originally rated this a 5 star product, but after some reviews of the pommel falling off, I decided to go in my backyard and hack at a branch.Just like them, I hacked into ONE branch, about 20 times and there goes the pommel, detached from the plastic.They are correct, the pommel is NOT attached to the blade tang.It's attached to the PLASTIC.It's really cheaply made.Very poor.I really wish this was made different and I think that even Bear would agree that if he used this product himself, he would be greatly disappointed.BOO!!!

UPDATE:!!::
I've contacted Gerber regarding my issue, and it looks like this is essentially a "beta" version, and there will be modifications done Jan/feb of 2011 to correct the issues at hand.Maybe the new one will also be made in Portland.Here is their correspondence.

(More customer reviews)This pen means business...!!!It's rock solid and delivers an extremely sharp - mind bending - blow to anyone who happens to be on the wrong end of it. I will instantly disable an attacker (if you hit the right spot of course). It's really nice to hold and has a good grip. It's pointy enough to ensure maximum delivery of pain, yet not so pointy it would actually penetrate skin (unless you hit very hard). I like the lanyard hole and that the cap snaps on/off, no screw cap here.

The pen writes rather nicely out of the box (I'm sure you can find various other refills to suit your need), although it's a bit too heavy for writing an essay - for that I prefer a lighter pen, like the Pilot Precise V5 RT (my every day choice of pen).

Best thing about this pen is, it's 100% legal to carry anywhere. You can even take it with you past TSA security checks.

Pros:
Fits really well in your hand when it is closed and open.
Rubber grip prevents you from slipping when applying alot of force even with sweaty hands
Since the knife has a 154 CM blade it can be sharpened to dangerous proportions.I've gotten it sharp enough to shave with using a water only fine grind stone.
The screw driver provides excellent torque and bits stay snug while in use.
The thumb nub provides perfect leverage for opening using only your thumb.(however it is only right handed)

Cons:
The back of the blade is a sharp as an ice skate.So watch out when using the thumb stud to open the blade if you finger slides along the 90 degree edge it probably won't cut you but it will leave a mark.
The bits stored in the handle move a but but don't fall out.But I imagine as the knife gets old they could possibly fall out.
The rubber is not as durable as I would like but it has lasted so far with only loosing a little piece of the corner after someone used my knife as a hammer.
The 154 CM metal is not rust proof.The blade should be oiled regularly and kept dry if possible.
The belt clip is designed for thicker belts.With my braided cloth belt the knife has come loose while running.

Again overall this is an amazing knife.I'd buy another one if the one I have ever wore out, after its 25 year warranty. :-)

Leatherman 831064 Serac S3 LED Flashlight Review

Pros:
- Compact - just slightly larger than a roll of life savers
- Three different light intensity levels... too many high-end flashlights are always super bright.. eats through batteries quick and is blinding for something simple like reading a book in a dim room.The low intensity level on the S3 is perfect for most day-to-day purposes and lasts for 30+ hours (I've personally tested this).The mid range is more than enough for close work or signaling.. not sure what anyone would need the brightest setting for (blinding a charging moose??) but it's there if you need it and it certainly provides plenty of lumen bragging rights.
- Water resistant to 3 feet - no concerns about rain or shallow dunkings
- Shock resistant - can survive mild drops
- Excellent build quality.It's truly a pleasure to hold and use.I find myself carrying it even when it's not on.. it gives you that natural satisfaction of owning a very well made gadget.Anyone who's ever happily wasted time playing with the blades of their Leatherman Micra or Victornox Swiss Army knife knows what I'm talking about.

Cons:
- Expensive.Flashlights seem to come in 2 different price ranges.. the S3 is at the lower end of the high range.. but that still makes it 3 to 4 times more pricy than plenty of good lights on the market.
- Special battery.Not a big deal - if you spend this much on a flashlight you should expect to spend a bit more on batteries - but you can't get them at every corner store.Buy extras before heading out on a long trip.
- Heavy.Actually a pro in many ways - the weight feels great in your hand - but if you're planning to use the clip to attach it to the brim of your baseball hat (as pictured on Leatherman's website) you'd better have a mighty stiff hat brim.If you need a hands-free light get a headlamp instead.
- Twitchy light intensity control.. on vs. off is a robust "click" but changing intensity levels takes some practice and feels a bit tweaky.This is my main personal complaint and the only reason I haven't given the flashlight 5 stars.

Mut EOD, MOLLE tactical, Black Review

(More customer reviews)This is in response to a previous review, not to negate what they said at all, but to ask the question whether or not they knew what they were buying.The MUT EOD was designed for Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Breaching personnel.The "cheap" parts are very valuable to those of us who carry a black rifle (AR-15, M4 or M-16) as part of our job. The bolt clearing device works extremely well and can put you back in the action in seconds, rather than needing to "sit this one out".Having scored at least one firing pin with disastrous results, I am thankful Leatherman put the softer bronze cleaning blade on this tool.Nothing on the MUT EOD was a mistake.The parts that can wear out are easily replaced (wire cutter, scraper blade, etc.) and the rest of the tool is sturdy enough to take some very serious punishment.My suggestion is simply this: If you don't need a C-4 punch or det-cord cutter/crimper, get the utility version of the MUT.It is excellent for the handywork of daily living and doesn't have the job specific items that the EOD does.But, if you need the EOD tools, this is simply the best you can get.Rugged, ready and a real lifesaver when you need it.
