SOG Specialty Knives & Tools S63-N EOD PowerLock with V-Cutter Review

SOG Specialty Knives & Tools S63-N EOD PowerLock with V-Cutter
Average Reviews:

Tool is very good quality; durable and easy to use.It is much better than previous brands I have used.I would rate tool itself as excellent. The leather sheath is horrible. The button on mine broke the second day I wore it.Plus the sheath is made so that your belt is located near the bottom of sheath which makes the tool stand too high and dig into side.

Combining Compound Leverage and PowerLock Technology for Safe, Easy Use
Driven by an exclusive interlocking gear system, SOG's patented Compound Leverage technology is a legend in folding tools. With the proprietary technology's increased leverage, SOG pliers generate twice the power of their conventional counterparts, minimizing the amount of hand pressure that is required to get the most torque out of the tool. And using SOG's PowerLock technology, the S63-N features removable, pivoting handle covers that improve hand comfort and allow for additional pressure on tough jobs.
SOG is the only company to apply Compound Leverage technology to EOD-specific (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) multi-tools. This technology makes the S63-N an ideal tool for crimping blasting caps and demolition cord with minimal hand pressure. The position of the crimper device within the handle is an EOD-specific feature unique to SOG. This design serves to minimize collateral damage to the crimper and allows you to have uninterrupted use of the plying surface (unlike other brands' tools). Additionally, the crimper produces non-flaring, high pull-out strength crimps that meet government fuse well specifications.
The S63-N is GSA approved.
Heavy-Duty Components Meet Professional Needs
With over a dozen components, from pliers to screwdrivers, and industrial-grade, quality design, the S63-N includes everything a professional contractor or casual do-it-yourselfer needs, including a V-Cutter that can cut seatbelts, paracord, fishing line, electrical cable sheathing, and more. The S63-N also features the first foldable 1/4-inch drive that can turn sockets and hex screwdriver tips (when used with the use of a standard adapter sold separately).
Ergonomic, Lightweight Design Ensures Comfortable Use
Like all the multi-tools in the PowerPlier Series, the S63-N PowerLock multi-tool can be opened and closed with a one-handed flip of the wrist. All tool components are easy to access and lock open with the easy-to-use, patent-pending Piano-Locks. One of the simplest and safest locking devices ever engineered for a multi-tool, Piano-Locks let you simply press the back of the lock to close the component into the handle.
The S63-N 's smooth handle surfaces promote comfort on even the toughest jobs. Additional features include gear covers and hex bolts that provide easy access to the tools. And at just 9.6 ounces, this multi-tool is lightweight and easy to carry. A nylon pouch with belt loop is included for convenient portability.
This multi-tool is backed by a lifetime warranty that protects against defects in manufacturing and materials.

I got this because I got a good deal on it.And while I will say that it doesn't seem as refined(chunky) as a leatherman in some ways I think it is every bit as useful and durable. i love the one hand operation to get to the pliers.Awesome product!Very very happy with it.

Product Description:
We can think of about 600 reasons why this much-applauded multi-tool belongs on your belt. But don""""t worry, we""""ll just stick to the most important ones here. Like profound versatility, for example. And failsafe performance. And a level of rock-solid design and construction that pleases the eye and satisfies the soul.

It all begins with high quality stainless steel. Then we incorporated Gerber""""s patented one-handed opening pliers. Of the 6 models available, three feature the standard needlenose plier and the other three have our bluntnose configuration.

You""""d be hard pressed to find a more rugged or more fearless multi-tool out there. But go ahead and look around a bit. See what you think. Then c""""mon back to Gerber and pick the Multi-Plier 600 that truly suits your needs. We""""re building plenty.

Gerber 22-01771 14-Function EVO Multi Tool Review

Gerber 22-01771 14-Function EVO Multi Tool
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I do a a bit of tech work at my community college in maintaining their audio equipment.I'm also a hobbyist and a bass guitarist, and in all three areas the EVO has provided admirable service.I've had this for roughly six months now, using it daily for whatever task I can think of at the moment.

Pros: -Durable construction; only tool that's shown wear is the serrated blade (that I pretty much abuse to save the wickedly sharp plain edge anyway)
-Spring-loaded handles and component locks. Also, the scissors are spring-loaded for extra cutting power.
-More compact than most multi-tools, making it more convenient for day-to-day carry
-Broad selection of useful items, all-outboard components.

Cons: -Screwdriver tips could have been selected better; for medium-sized screws, the smaller one is too small to get a good grip and the larger one is too thick to even fit in the divot. But they still both have their uses.
-It's a bit difficult to get the smaller screwdriver out at first; nails are recommended.
-The sheath should have a different fastener mechanism; the Velcro strap on mine has recently worn down to the point where it will pop open with the slightest motion. And Gerber doesn't sell separate sheaths that fit this model (one downside to its size)

Overall: This is the first multi-tool I've owned, and I am quite happy with it (despite the sheath part.)If you work in a field that demands heavy repair work on a daily basis, you could go for something larger and even more robust.I highly recommend it to guitarists and any musician who does maintenance on their instruments, as well as theater techies, hobbyists, handymen, and anyone who wants a versatile and compact tool for day-to-day tasks.

Product Description:
Time and again, Gerber manages to push the bar for innovation in the multi-tool category. the new Evo is no exception. Based on they"re knife counterparts, they exude style and feature all outboard components, meaning there is no need to open handles to access tools. Each component is locking, making these tools among the safest out there. And spring loaded handles reduce user fatigue during extended use.

Imperial Schrade STINCP Schrade Tool Review

Imperial Schrade STINCP Schrade Tool
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been the owner/user of a Schrade multitool since in debuted. While it has had it's faults, such as the small screwdriver that doesn't lock and the lock mechanism that can be easily sprung by pushing back on the small screwdriver, the Schrade ST1 multitool was the most comfortable to use, most useful, largest pliers multi-tool I have ever used.

I was very disappointed when Schrade went under, and thrilled when the Chinese version appeared.Wow- the pliers are much smaller, smaller than my leatherman wave. The tools are stiff and of a lighter gauge metal. This is NOT the same tool. The world waits for someone- Leatherman, are you listening?- to come up with an improved version of this great tool.

Eddie Bauer® LED Pocket Pliers Review

Eddie Bauer® LED Pocket Pliers
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have a Leatherman Kick, a Gerber multi-tool, and this Eddie Bauer multi-tool.The Eddie Bauer multi-tool and the Gerber both seem very well made and are significantly less expensive than the Leatherman Kick.Furthermore, the assortment of tools on the Eddie Bauer and the Gerber is better than on the Leatherman Kick.Only time will tell how well each lasts, but I am reasonably confident that they will all do well.

My favorite feature of the Eddie Bauer tool is the built-in LED flashlight, which shine exactly where it should -- right on whatever you are squeezing with the pliers.Nice touch.

Paladin Tools PT-540 Powerplay Multi-tool For Electrical and Networking Review

Paladin Tools PT-540 Powerplay Multi-tool For Electrical and Networking
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The PT-540 is well-built.For a data person like me it's very handy. There are some things I dislike about it but overall it's a great tool.

Getting to the tools in the handles requires you to open the tool up, swing open a metal door and then extend the tool you wish to you. That metal door is somehow annoying.I wish, like with Leatherman's Surge, that they just beefed up the handles and not bothered with the metal covers.I've popped off one of them a couple times already.

The pliers and in fact the whole opening of the tool is gear driven. That's nice.It feels very solid which is a big plus. It's easier to work one-handed than a Leatherman with articulates in several spots to accomplish the same thing.I haven't gotten the little jaw stop to work quite right yet.I just stick a couple fingers between the handles and let them guide how closed the tool goes, just like I was stripping a small wire with a pair linemens or side cutters.

I have the same gripe about how the case fits on your belt as I did with the Leatherman surge. It sticks up too high about the belt.I wish they'd come up with a way of lower it down so the top of the case, where the flap extends, is no more than an inch above the belt.Making it adjustable would have been a great addition too.

I haven't gotten the 1/4" adapter to slide onto the bit yet.It appears to be too tight.I don't really plan on using it for that anyway so no big loss.I also haven't figured out how to get the adapter out of the elastic pouch under the knife in the sheath without taking off the sheath and slapping the pouch across my hand.Still no big loss for what I want it for.

Finally, to explain the title of my review, understand that the PT-540 is a multi-tool first and a knife second. The knife blade is rather lightweight and hard to use.I like how my Leatherman Surge blade is stronger and tougher.I also wish Paladin had made the knife blade accessible without opening the tool at all.The blade, the most used tool, should be something you can open up and use one-handed without opening the tool, the metal cover, extending the blade, closing the metal cover, and closing the knife to form a solid hand (but an offset handle too).As a knife it's not very good.As a multi-tool it's very nice.

Gerber 30-000441 Octane Multi Plier, Red Review

Gerber 30-000441 Octane Multi Plier, Red
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
While perhaps not of the highest quality, this is a very functional and affordable multi-tool for the minimalist. Holding the tool upright with one hand while pressing the two side buttons, the pliers are easily deployed with gravity. The knife is larger than with most other Gerber multi-tools and is also easily accessed (whether the pliers are deployed or not). This multi-tool also has a full-sized Phillips screwdriver (unlike other Gerbers), a full-sized flat screwdriver, as well as a small flat screwdriver which can also be used as a punch/awl. The most interesting tool is the retail package opener which basically operates as a small box cutter for those hard to open plastic clam packages. All of the tools have locks (the knife with a liner lock)and the pliers can always be deployed independent of the other tools. Overall, this is a nice little multi-tool where the two most-used tools (knife and pliers) deploy easily and quickly. This multi-tool is also relatively thin and lightweight and fits nicely in the pocket... and comes with a pocket clip (no sheath necessary!). Again, recommended as an affordable and functional multi-tool for the minimalist (like the Gerber Crucial, except that the Crucial is a two-handed opening multi-tool).PS: I have already used this tool to install a ceiling fan!

(30-000441) Octane Multi Plier, Red

    Wire cutters
    Half-serrated blade
    Bottle opener
    Phillips driver
    Small flat driver
    Large flat driver
    Retail package opener
    Pocket clip

When these durable Gerber pliers are opened they measure 5.5 inches, when they're closed the pliers are a compact 4.0 inches. Fast, Convenient One-Hand Plier Opening
At the center of Gerber Octane Multi Plier's efficient design is a sturdy pair of pliers that allow you to get a secure hold on a wide variety of surfaces, so you can tighten stubborn bolts, move hot camp pans, and pull tough knots loose. And the Octane makes use of Gerber's patented one-hand opening design, which allows you to snap the pliers into place and get to work using a single hand. This leaves your other hand free to stabilize the workpiece in front of you, keep fasteners at the ready, or hold a flashlight.
Sturdy, Half-Serrated Knife Blade
The Octane's dependable blade is big enough to handle the tasks taken on by any dedicated pocketknife, and it features a half-serrated edge for making quick cuts through rope and other fibrous materials. Offering the best of both worlds without the weight of two blades, the half of the blade that has a fine edge allows for accurate detail work and easy sharpening.
Nine-Tools-in-One for Job-Specific Performance
Beyond this tough, sharp blade and the easy-open pliers, the Octane offers a set of wire cutters, a Phillips driver, a small flat driver, a large head driver, a bottle opener, and a special tool designed for opening retail packages effectively. It also comes equipped with a convenient pocket clip.
Sleek, Trim Design Ideal for Travelers
Despite being a completely utilitarian accessory, the Octane still shows off sleek, contemporary good looks. Its stainless steel body and components feature a satin finish, and one side of the handle is finished in a brilliant red, which makes the tool easy to spot.
In addition, the Octane measures a length of 5.5 inches when open and 4.0 inches when closed, allowing the tool to fit comfortably in your hand during use and comfortably in your pocket or your pack between uses. And it weighs in at just 5.0 ounces, so you'll barely notice that you're carrying it.
